Placemaking
Placemaking Grant.
Placemaking is defined by the Project for Public Spaces (PPS) as “a collaborative process by which we can shape our public realm in order to maximize shared value.”
Applications for this grant should consider the public spaces in Hamilton neighborhoods, from streets and sidewalks to parks and trails. Are there unique or innovative ways to collaborate with others to increase the shared value of those spaces?
Taking inspiration from the Creative Placemaking grant given by the National Endowment for the Arts, the application should:
Bring new attention to or elevate key community assets and issues, voices of residents, local history, or cultural infrastructure.
Inject new or additional energy, resources, activity, people, or enthusiasm into a place.
Envision new possibilities for a community or place - a new future, a new way of overcoming a challenge, or approaching problem-solving.
Connect communities, people, places, and economic opportunities via physical spaces or new relationships.
Any permanent resident of the City of Hamilton. This can be applied for in partnership with local non-profit organizations who bring peripheral value (human or financial), but this must be led by residents, acting first as residents, to increase the shared value of public spaces in Hamilton.
The 17 Strong Advisory Board will consider the strength of the application based on the following criteria:
Value: The project increases the shared value of public space in Hamilton.
Impact: Expected impact is clearly explained, including who will be impacted, when, where, and how.
Partners: Other organizations that are bringing human or capital resources to support the project. Quantify this external support.
Creativity/Innovation: How unique and inventive is the approach.
Completeness: All of the required elements of the proposal been included and sufficiently addressed. (see below)
