Examples of Past Microgrant Events
Midnight Waltz
In collaboration with Envision Partnerships, a dance for senior citizens was hosted by a member of the 17STRONG student group from Hamilton High School. The dance was held at the YMCA and consisted of a night of dancing, food, live music, and community enjoyment.
Eaton Hill Cleanup
In collaboration with Envision Partnerships, a cleanup event was organized by a Hamilton freshman on Eaton Hill. The event brought together local businesses, the neighborhood church, and a large group of volunteers, including City Council members, residents, parents, and students. After the cleanup, volunteers gathered to enjoy food, drinks, and connection.
German Village Cleanup
In partnership with Envision Partnerships, a Hamilton student organized a community cleanup event in the German Village neighborhood, held at Rotary Park. The event marked the launch of the annual "Spring Clean the 17" initiative, and prizes were awarded to volunteers for their participation.
Back to School Block Party
The Washington and Governor’s Hill neighborhoods hosted a vibrant block party featuring food, school supplies, a petting zoo, haircuts, a bookmobile, and activities from both the Hamilton Police and Fire Departments. The event offered a fun and supportive environment for students to get ready for the upcoming school year, with games and resources available for all who attended.
Hamilton Hollow Earth Festival
This inaugural event raised awareness of Symmes Park, its history, and its founder, J.C. Symmes Jr., while also highlighting his renowned "Hollow Earth Theory." To honor Symmes and all veterans buried within the park, which was once a cemetery for Hamilton, the event began with a color guard presentation, followed by a Native American drummer who performed a traditional drum ceremony to bless the site. A special moment of the day occurred when a Life Scout, working on his Eagle project, located the graves of Revolutionary War veteran Paul Bunnell and his wife. Their remains were honored with a plaque and flag, marking their resting place and commemorating Bunnell's service.
Hamilton Hispanic Festival
This inaugural event celebrated the vibrant Latino/Hispanic community in Hamilton. While originally slated to take place at Marcum Park, the festival was relocated to the McDulin garage due to weather conditions. The event featured lively music, delicious food, a variety of vendors, and spirited dancing, creating a festive atmosphere for all who attended.
Third Annual South Side Youth Kickball Tourney
This weekend kickball tournament, held at the Booker T. Washington Community Center, featured food, music, and an awards ceremony in connection with the Summer Chess Club Microgrant Program.
Corn Stand Jam
A community based nonprofit organization, held their 6th annual Corn Stand Jam which consists of fundraising activities that lead up to the all day music festival at Marcum Park. This event raises awareness towards mental health, increases access to services for those living with mental health issues and provides resources that help facilitate a more productive life.
North End Summer Bash
The North End Neighborhood welcomed families from the Hamilton community to come and celebrate the end of school. This event consisted of food, tie dye, games, crafts, and loads of fun for the community to part take in.
